Frequently Asked Questions
Where do you source your wood?
The wood that I use typically is either sourced from local arborist or sawmills. For my bowls, I use green timber which all comes from trees that have been cut down due to storm damage, construction or concerns for the stability of the tree such as rot. For other items such as cutting boards and rolling pins, I will use kiln dried lumber from local saw mills.
What finish do you use for you work?
I typically will use a variety of finishes that will just depend on the item I am finishing. My most used finish is a all natural tung oil that has been cut with a natural citrus solvent. Other finishes that I use are danish oil & walnut oil. All items will list which finish has been used in the product description.
Are your items food safe?
Yes! All finishes that I use are natural and food safe. However this is not to say that all items are intended for the same amount of use. For example, certain bowls like a natural edge bowl can be more suited for a fruit bowl which is a low use item versus a traditional style bowl which can be used for a salad bowl, fruit bowl or serving bowl. I will typically recommend the type of usage in the product description but the amount and purpose of use is at the discretion of the customer.
Can my item break or be damaged?
Yes it can! Wood is a very durable material but not indestructible. Proper care must be taken when using a Carolina Grain Co. piece or else your item can be damaged. This can include how the item is handled, the amount of use and if proper cleaning and maintenance is done for the item. With each purchase, you will receive a care card that outlines some do’s & don’ts for getting the most out of your piece. Also you are more than welcome to reach out with any questions you may have via the contact page!
Do you sell just online?
As of 2025, my website is my main storefront. However you can find my work at BL Makers Market in Thomasville, NC, Greenhill Gallery in Greensboro, NC and Slope Home in Brooklyn, NY. I also will occasionally attend local art & craft fairs in NC. You can find out more about those via Facebook & Instagram.
Do you offer custom work?
At this time, I am not offering any custom services.
