Meet the Maker

Andrew McCarn is the owner and operator behind Carolina Grain Co. Andrew got his start in woodworking back in high school where he would take 2 years worth of woodworking classes which would help him discover his love and passion for the craft. He would go on to college to major in graphic design and marketing which would help him visually create the brand Carolina Grain Co. During this time, he was also working at a local restaurant which also lead to his passion for cooking and food. This is how Carolina Grain Co. would become what it is today. After college, Andrew would invest in a small collection of tools that consisted of a small jointer, planer and table saw - all which would help him get his start. He started his woodworking journey building outdoor furniture and specializing in Adirondack chairs which would give him a good sense of production and business experience. Eventually Andrew wanted to experience wood turning which was something he had never done before. Later that year, he would get his first lathe which was a small bench top lathe from Harbor Freight and a bowl gouge from Klingspor Wooworking shop. He would then go on to teach himself the basics of wood turning by watching various videos on YouTube and then trying them for himself. Once he got a grasp on how a bowl was turned, it was all downhill from there…

What is Carolina Grain Co?

Carolina Grain Co. was born out of an idea of combing a love for food and woodworking which is how it developed into a craft that specializes in wooden bowls, utensils, cutting boards and other various kitchenware. Carolina Grain Co’s goal is to provide people with heirloom quality pieces that will last them for generations. As Andrew received a 100+ year old cutting board passed down from his grandmother, his mission with CG is for customers to be able to do the same with their items for their family and loved ones. It is important to provide people with kitchenware that they enjoy using as well as knowing their pieces are one of a kind, sustainably made and naturally finished.
